Sustainability Initiatives

Vivid Packaging helps lessen the carbon footprint of packaged products in several ways. By using less raw material to make the same container—a process known as "light weighting"—we lower the amount of energy needed to produce and ship products. We also add up to 30% premium-quality recycled resin to production runs. And we avidly pursue reduction in fuel and shipping costs by moving blow molding operations closer to fillers.

 

Help With DfE Certification

Consumers are ever more interested in selecting products that are safer for both their families and the environment. When consumers see products marked with the DfE (Design for Environment) label, they know its ingredients have gone through a rigorous review by the EPA. Vivid assists its clients in obtaining DfE certification.

 

Recycling Information

Plastic products account for 11.1% of all municipal solid waste generated in the U.S. In 2001, 5.5% of it was recovered. About 10% of plastic containers and packaging were recovered, mostly soft drink, milk, and water bottles.

PET or PETE - Polyethylene Terephthalate
Used to package soft drinks, water, beer juice, sports drinks and other beverages, as well as edible oils, salad dressing, peanut butter, various condiments and sauces, and non-food products like household cleaners and personal products.

HDPE - High Density Polyethylene
Commonly used for milk, cider and water jugs, as well as detergent, fabric, softener and bleach.

PVC or V - Vinyl or Polyvinyl Chloride
V Often used for salad dressing bottles, vegetable oil bottles and mouthwash.

LDPE - Low Density Polyethylene
Used for flexible bags for dry cleaning, trash, produce, bread and shrink wrap. Recycled LDPE is often used to make grocery bags.

PP - Polypropylene
Usually found in drinking straws, battery cases, some dairy tubs, bottle labels and caps.

PS - Polystyrene
Commonly used for materials like packaging peanuts, plastic utensils, meat and egg trays.

Other
Other plastics are often made of multiple resins or layers of different types of plastics. These may include microwavable packages, snack bags and industrial plastics.
